The art of the selfie has evolved into creative expression through the art hoe movement. The term Art Hoe started appearing on social media platforms about a year ago. Instagram and Twitter display beautiful creations through the art hoe movement through the use of the hashtag art hoe. The movement was started by young teen artists by the names of Jam and Mars as way to challenge racist stereotype representing young people of color. Art Hoe has turned into a world wide movement of young black creatives reclaiming their images. Art Hoe consist of young women of color taking beautiful pictures in front of classic art drawings such as Van Gogh. Most of the pictures take place within art museums.

The movement debunk the myth that most young black females are angry, hate their natural hair, and strive for eurocentric standard of beauty. The Art Hoe Movement may be the first POC feminist movement that was born on social media. Young Girls are reclaiming the representation of their bodies. It is the first opportunity that they can show the world their true selves.

What do you think about the ART HOE movement? Do you think it is a good look for women of color? Please comment below.
